The Scripture Squad responds...
Exactly how old was Timothy?
Paul loved Timothy as a son.(1 Timothy 1:2, 18) He praised Timothy for his knowledge of Scripture and his faith. (2 Timothy 3:15) We read that Timothy traveled with Paul some (Acts 16:1-3) and also represented Paul in Corinth and Ephesus (Acts 19:22, 1 Timothy 1:3) However, there is no place in Scripture that specifically states Timothy's age. We do know that he was young (1 Timothy 4:12) It was traditionally taught that someone would begin their public ministry around the age of 30. (Scripture teaches that Jesus was 30 when He began His ministry.) So we can say that Timothy was probably much younger than 30 when he began to teach that the Messiah Jesus had come. We have much to learn from the life of Timothy. Timothy was: Both 1 Timothy and 2 Timothy are written from Paul to Timothy. A great amount of the character of both men are revealed in these short books. We urge you to take some time and read these letters. They are warm with truth of Paul's affection of the zealous young man, and of the love of God for all people. We see promises of blessings for those who endure in the truth of His purpose and will. We see encouragement for those who face persecution and trials. Thank you for your question. - The Scripture Squad : |
