What's in a Song?
By jjTCC and muSISun, December 1999

Do you like music? How do you determine which songs are better than others? Maybe it's the rhythm, or a particular group/artist you enjoy listening to. Do you ever stop to listen or think about the lyrics to your favorite song? Do these lyrics represent a positive message?

It is very important that Christians listen to Christian music. It says in 1 Corinthians 6:19 :

"Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?"

Shouldn't we be listening to music that glorifies our Creator?

We believe that there are three important factors to a Christian song. They are:

  1. Is the writer of the song saved?
  2. Is the group/artist who sings the song saved?
  3. THE MESSAGE! Does the song:
    • Praise our Lord?
    • Offer Encouragement?
    • Tell others about Jesus?

Only if all three of these questions are answered a solid, "Yes!" does the song pass the test.

Some people have told us Christian music is boring. They don't listen to it because it's only hymns. Not true! There are many Christians who have been blessed with the talent of singing and writing creative and Godly songs. Yes, there are hymns, but there are other kinds of music also, from gospel to rap. It's a win-win situation. You get great music, and great lyrics. How can you pass that up?

In closing we'd like to say tune into a Christian radio station and

CRANK UP THE VOLUME!
